Paper Boxes
Our second assignment for Maker Corps was to “make stuff” so I decided to do some paper craft with really nice looking paper I had bought a while ago. I thought it would be cool to make a bunch of boxes, each a bit smaller than the other so that they fit inside each other. After I started building the boxes I had the idea to try out some bookbinding, so I sewed the spine of a few pages of paper together, and it ended up pretty well!
Squishy Circuits
For the first assignment for Maker Corps was to use Squishy Circuits to build something. I created a stop light (although it doesn’t really look like one) that blinks green, red and yellow. I’m hoping that I can make the dough from the directions that they gave us so that I can make it look a lot more like a real traffic light. I used Play-Doh as the conductive dough, and hooked up an Arduino to control the LEDs.
cowDuck Poster
A bunch of my friends in the Computer Science department at Wheaton were accepted to present their poster on their iOS app they developed, called cowDuck. I helped them make their poster for the conference. It was mounted on a tri-fold board - here’s what it looked like in person (even though it’s a bad picture and cut off)
Sound-Activated LED's
In the WHALE lab, we set up LED’s under the white board that light up to whatever music is playing. We have three strips under each (red, green and blue).
iPhone case
I just made an image for the back of an iPhone case that I customized on Uncommon, which had images of my interests on the back! I can’t wait for it to come in! Check out that infinite loop program in there! I’ll post a photo of the real thing when it gets delivered!
Custom made Thank You Notes
I created thank you cards for my Christmas presents this year! They’re about 4”x6”, with linoleum block lettering. I’m currently working on designing the envelope!
Initial Design for Hard Drive Shelving Unit
I designed a shelving unit for external hard drives, initially which could hold 4 separate hard drives in one unit. The designs were created to be printed on our lab’s Makerbot Replicator, but the conversion from SketchUp files to the Makerbot hasn’t worked perfectly yet. More prints and edits will hopefully fix it and it should be doable. Then I decided to create a stackable shelf to print as many shelves as desired and stack on top of each other.
The Link Marketing Materials
I’ve designed business cards for The Link, which is the project I work on marketing for in the SAIL office at Wheaton. We’re giving out carabiners to increase involvement, so I decided to make cards to staple onto the carabiner bags with information. There are three different cards: Here’s what they looked like all printed!
WHALE Logo Linoleum Cut
I created the picture for the WHALE Facebook page, and then decided to do a linoleum block cut of it just for fun!
SGA² Postcards and Publicity Materials
The Student Government Association just released their new initiative, called SGA², for which I created the publicity materials.
